The Chamber of African Blue Economy was born out of a shared vision to tap into the potential of Africa’s vast coastal and marine resources for sustainable development. Our journey began with a recognition of the critical role that the blue economy plays in the socio-economic fabric of the continent, as well as the pressing need to address the challenges facing Africa’s coastal communities, marine and fresh water ecosystems.

We are committed to protecting and conserving Africa’s marine and fresh water ecosystems and biodiversity, recognizing their intrinsic value and importance to both current and future generations.

We envision a future where Africa’s coastal and marine resources are sustainably managed and utilized to create resilient economies, thriving communities, and healthy ecosystems.

Our approach is holistic and inclusive, ensuring that all stakeholders, from local communities to international partners, are engaged and benefit from the blue economy’s growth.

Our Objectives

 

Maritime Infrastructure Development

Advocate for increased and private investment in modern port facilities and maritime infrastructure. Collaborate with government businesses to improve transportation systems for efficient movement of goods and people. Establish partnership with relevant stakeholders to promote sustainable coastal marine infrastructure projects.

Tourism and Recreation

We work with the tourism industry to develop and implement sustainable tourism guidelines and best practices. Organize events and campaigns to promote responsible tourism and raise awareness about marine biodiversity. Support the development of recreational activities that align with principles of sustainable Blue Economy.

Climate Change Adaptation and Resilience

Collaboration with environmental organizations and governments to implement climate change adaptation strategies. support community-based projects for the restoration and conservation of coastal ecosystem.

Capacity Building and Education

Establish training programs in collaboration with educational institutions to build skills for the blue economy sector-promote partnership with academia, government and industry to support research and innovation-organize awareness campaigns to highlight the importance of education and capacity building for sustainable blue economy practices.

Cross-Border Collaborative

Facilitate forums and conferences to promote regional cooperation in addressing trans boundary challenges. Work with neighboring countries to develop joint policies and initiatives for the sustainable management of share marine resources. Establish a platform for information and technology transfer to encounter the adoption of best practices regionally.

Sustainable Fisheries Management

Support training programs for fishers on responsible and sustainable fishing practices.

Aquaculture Development

Facilitate the establishment of a network connecting aquaculture entrepreneur, researchers and inventors. Organize workshops and training sessions to promote sustainable aquaculture practices among local communities.

Gender Inclusivity

Advocate for gender quality within the blue economy sector and establish initiatives to ensure equal opportunities. Collaborate with women’s organizations to support the active participation of women in decision making processes. Develop and implement policies that address gender specific challenges to promote the empowerment of women in blue economy.
